My very first meeting with MG Freeman occurred during the Christmas Party which was hosted by the Commanding General of the District of Columbia National Guard. I had just returned from Fort McClellan, Alabama and completed the Military Police Officers Course. I was the elevator operator for the event ... the 275th Military Police Company was assigned the security and escort responsibility for this function. MG Freeman at the time was CPT Freeman then assigned to the DCARNG Officer's Candidate School. If it weren't for MG Freeman's conversation with me I would have never considered applying to the Officer Candidate School.

I´ve certainly not forgotten about Warren. He crosses my mind often. I remember him as a loving husband to his wife Barbara and the positive role his played in her son, Kevin´s life and Kevin´s 2 sons life. A role model step father.

I would be remiss, if I did not give honor to a Friend, General Freeman. He was a very supportive friend as I was the commander of the 104th Maintenance company. He gave me a lot of tips on being a military leader. When I moved to the WV Air National Guard, we kept in touch with each other as military friends. I give my final salute to MG Warren Freeman as a man of dignity, respect, and positive leadership. Lynne Holcomb-(Kornegay), Maj Ret.

Wake Up

Wake up everybody
The time has come to pray
Our lord and savior shall return
But we no not the day

So get your house in order
And Repent for all your sins
The king is coming back for us
This life on earth will end

Wake up all you saints
Even you sinners too
God has a plan for General
He can do the same for you
Rest assured upon his promise
My God will see you through

So no more time for resting
You can sleep when your day is done
For Heavens kingdom in the sky
Is the prize your soul will have won.

I wrote this poem in honor of you general. Thank you for all the love and dedication you poured into my life. Your passing was truly a wake up call. Forestville Military Academy alumni will never forget you. Thank u sir, Wayne Jones....
