VELMA KRAMER GALBLUM  
Velma Kramer Galblum passed away at home in Bethesda November 3, 2014, with her beloved husband, Dr. Harry Galblum, by her side. Born November 16, 1921 in Brockton, MA to Morris and Ellen Kramer, she was the eldest of three girls and called Bethesda home for the last 65 years.Velma was a skilled painter, dedicated gardener, dedicated social justice advocate, avid reader, and a lover of art, history and all things modern- from art to furniture and architecture. She volunteered for more than 25 years as a docent at the Museum of American Art and for ten years at Brookside Gardens. She and Harry were adventurous travellers who visited more than 70 countries together.After finishing high school, Velma bravely set out for Hawaii during World War II to assist as a civilian worker. It was there that Harry and Velma met and fell in love. Their 68 year marriage began on December 7, 1946, and together, they raised four daughters. She is survived by her husband Harry, their four daughters and their partners- Judy and John Pex, Jane and Chris Haigh, Amy Galblum, and Lisa and Jory Gessow; nine grandchildren and their partners- Joshua and Sarah Pex, Jake and Daun Lowenberg, Racheli Pex, Moriah and Tom Gruenwald, Anna and Jake Berry, Carl and Emily Lowenberg, Yonathan and Stefanie Pex, Molly Haigh, and Sam Gessow; and ten great-grandchildren.A gathering of friends and family will take place at the Galblum residence in Bethesda on Saturday, November 9 from 1 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association, Doctors without Borders, or the Jewish Social Services Agency.

I am so sorry to read of Velma's passing. She was a wonderful lady and I enjoyed our visits together. My sincere condolences to Harry.She was a wonderful mother who allowed the girls to live their own lives.
