RUTH GILL VAN CLEVE  
Ruth Gill Van Cleve of Falls Church, VA, formerly of the Pinecrest neighborhood in Alexandria, VA, died peacefully on December 22, 2014. Wife of the late Harry R. Van Cleve; Beloved mother of John Van Cleve of Pittsburgh, PA, Elizabeth (Libby) Van Cleve of Guilford, CT, and David Van Cleve of McLean, VA. Also survived by her grandchildren, Raymond and Margaret Van Cleve, Nola Vees, and Sally and Samuel Van Cleve. She served the U.S. Government for decades with positions as Director of Territorial Affairs in the Department of Interior (1964-1969 and 1977-1981), Assistant General Counsel of the Federal Power Commission (1975-1977), and other jobs. A graduate and ardent supporter of Mt. Holyoke College, she served on the Board of Trustees from 1965-1986 and was granted an honorary doctorate in 1976. She also served on the Board of Trustees for Arlington Unitarian Church and Fairfax Unitarian Church.  A memorial service will be held at Arlington Unitarian Church, 4444 Arlington Blvd; Arlington VA on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11 AM. Inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will occur at a later date. An impressive woman, an intelligent leader, and a witty, cultured, and kind woman who spoke her mind with grace and charm. Ruth was my husband's family friend and a wonderful woman whom I will always admire and remember with great respect.
