DONALD GRAFF Obituary


DONALD FREDERICK GRAFF  
On May 9, 2015. Born in Billings, MT, January 31, 1928, the son of Frederick W. Graff and Ina MacMillan Graff, Don was raised in Laurel MT. He attended the University of Montana, earning a B.A. in 1951 and M.A. in 1952. He served in the Army from 1952-1954. He began his career as a newsman for United Press. He worked for Radio Free Europe from 1957-1963, first as an editor in Munich, then as bureau chief in Stockholm and later Vienna. Returning to the US with his family, he was a public affairs associate for Western Electric. In 1965 he became managing editor at Newspaper Enterprise Association, first in Cleveland and after 1971 in New York City, where he later also served as chief editorial writer, as managing editor of United Feature Syndicate, and wrote a nationally syndicated column. From 1987 on he was a freelance magazine writer, and after moving to Fairfax in 1988 also a senior editor at Craighead's International Executive Travel and Relocation Service. In retirement he began a second career as a tour guide in the Washington DC area. He spent his last years in Manhattan KS. He is survived by his sons David A. (Jenny) Graff and Donald H. Graff, grandson William E. Graff, and brother James R. (Louise) Graff. His wife of 54 years, Margaret H. Graff, predeceased him on Apr. 10, 2015. A memorial will be held at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan KS at a later date.
