PHILIPPE VINCENT CARDON, JR., MD  Capt. (Ret.) U.S. Public Health Service  
Died on August 2, 2015 in Providence, RI. Son of the late Philip Vincent Cardon and late Leah I. Cardon, he was born in Utah in 1922, and resided in the Washington, DC area from the mid 1930's until he moved to Rhode Island in 2004. His late wife, Joan A. Cardon, a nurse, died in 1999. His undergraduate education at Yale and medical education at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons were accelerated by World War II. An officer in the Public Health Service, he was a research physician at the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Mental Health, specializing in psychosomatic medicine. With his wife, he was a blue-water sailor, cruising multiple times between the Chesapeake Bay, New England, and the Caribbean, and also trans-Atlantic to the Mediterranean. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Cardon Hughes, son-in-law John and their two children, of Barrington, RI; and by his son, Charles Philip Cardon, daughter-in-law Kathryn, and their two children of Caliente, CA. Memorial observances will be private. In recognition of his career-long support of the nursing profession and his gratitude for the excellent care he received at The Miriam Hospital, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Miriam Hospital Foundation Nursing Education Fund, 164 Summit Ave., Providence, RI 02906.
