JOSEPH KRAFFT Obituary


JOSEPH MARTIN KRAFFT   
Scientist, Sailor, Volunteer, Family Man   Joseph Martin Krafft died on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at age 94. He leaves his beloved wife of 68 years, Alice Slavin Krafft. Joe is also survived by his sister Dorothy Krafft O'Donnell and brother, Frank Krafft; children, Katherine Krafft Long (John Long), Fred Krafft (Martha Caballero), Louise Krafft, Henry Krafft, Matthew Krafft (Jean Widmayer), Amy Krafft, Charles Krafft (Cairn Williams) and Rebecca Krafft (Jamie Bartalon); 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Joe was predeceased by his sisters Helen May, Marie Kelleher and Marguerite Krafft, and his brother, John Krafft. Joe was retired from the Metallurgy Division of the Naval Research Laboratory. He was a graduate of St. John's College High School and earned his Bachelors degree and PHD. from Catholic University. He was an avid racing sailor and Model A Ford enthusiast. He was a past commodore of the Potomac River Sailing Association and a member for many years of the Model A Ford Club of America. He was an active volunteer in ALIVE (Alexandrians InVolved Ecumenically) for over 40 years. A life celebration will take place Friday, May 19, 11 a.m. at Convergence, 1801 No. Quaker Lane, Alexandria VA, 22302. Donations in Joe's memory may be made to ALIVE!, Alexandrians InVolved Ecumenically, www.alive-inc.org
