PETER WEST Obituary

Peter J. West (age 85)
Died peacefully on May 3, 2017 surrounded by his family, after a long illness. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1931, he was the son of Stanley West and Eva Chisholm of England. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1946, became a U.S. citizen in August of 1953, and served in Korea with the U.S. Army. He attended Yale University, and then Harvard Business school on the GI Bill. He had a distinguished business career, serving as an international operations executive in organizations including A.M.F. (where his bakery group developed the now-universal technology needed to distribute bread in plastic bags), American Garden Products, UMC, and Transway. His many passions included art history, classical music, computers, and his beloved golden retrievers. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Mona, his children Eileen, Mona, and Stuart, and five grandchildren. His first son, David, predeceased him. Contributions in his name may be made to Capital Caring Hospice of Falls Church, Virginia at https://www.capitalcaring.org. A small celebration was held May 6 at Truro Anglican Church in Fairfax; memories can be shared at [email protected].
