CHARLES SKEETE Obituary


Charles Skeete  
Former Ambassador from Barbados to the United States and Organisation of American States (OAS), Charles A Skeete, 79, passed away peacefully amidst family and friends on December 9, 2017. Prior to tenure in Washington. DC as Ambassador, he served with distinction in the administration of the late Prime Ministers Errol Barrow and JMG (Tom) Adams. He was appointed as the Barbados Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Permanent Secretary (Planning) in the Ministry of Finance and Planning and led negotiations in 1980 with the International Monetary Fund. Ambassador Skeete, a leading Caribbean economist, was a prominent and highly regarded Barbadian statesman. After leaving government service Ambassador Skeete spent three decades as an economist to the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) serving as the English speaking Caribbean's representative on the executive board as well as Senior Advisor of Plans and Programs, one of the western hemisphere's largest international financial institutions.Charles, affectionately known as Charlie is survived by his wife, Joylyn; son, Nicholas; his five siblings, William, Seth, Lilian, Fulvia, David, and their extended families. A memorial service will be held at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road Fairfax,VA on Saturday. December 30, 2017 at 10 a.m.
