THELMA BATES Obituary


THELMA L. BATES  
Thelma L. Bates (Hancock) of Lansdale PA passed away quietly on Friday December 8, 2017 at Arden Courts of Warminster. She was 83 years old. Born in Omaha Nebraska, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Thelma (Norris) Hancock. After graduation from Omaha's Central High School, Thelma continued her education and received both her bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education and taught with the Omaha Public Schools. She later relocated to Maryland and continued her work in education with the Montgomery County Schools from which she retired. Thelma is the loving mother and is survived by Edward Bates (Pittsburgh PA), Shawn Miller (Bates) Lansdale PA, and David Bates (Laurel MD), two grandchildren Marlee and Trent Miller of Lansdale PA and a sister Nadine Forrest (Hancock) of Mesa Arizona as well as two nieces and a nephew and numerous other family and friends. She was predeceased in death by a daughter Kimberly Harper.Services were held previously on December 15, 2017 by the Decker Funeral Home, Inc. Warminster PA.

We worked together on a temp job in the early '80s, but I still remember Thelma's humor and goodwill, and have thought of her fondly through the years. Condolences to her family.
