Jojade Sr., John A.
John A. Jojade Sr., 93 of Wausau, died Feb. 18, 2013 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau, under the care of Aspirus Comfort care & Hospice Services.
He was born July 3, 1919 in Wausau to the late John C. and Hilda (Taege) Jojade. He was married July 27, 1940 to Virginia Bieble in Charles City, Iowa. John was inducted into the Army, 303rd Ordnance Division B and honorably served in Europe until 1946.
He was employed by Wausau Plumbing and Heating, learning the plumbing trade. After earning his Master License, he and Virginia owned and operated Jojade Plumbing and Heating on North 6th St. for 27 years. During these years he served on the Wisconsin Apprenticeship Committee for 25 years and was a Past President of the Plumbers Union. After retiring in 1981, he and Virginia moved to Ocala, FL. There he resumed membership in the Loyal Order of Moose, Crystal River, FL. After being active in the Moose Legion he earned the Fellowship Degree and is also a Past Governor of Lodge 2013. John was a life member of VFW Post 388 and American Legion Plant Post 10 of Wausau.
While in Florida, John was known for many wood lawn arrangements to decorate his yard and home every holiday all year. In 2004 he and Virginia returned to Wausau and resumed membership at St. Stephen Church where he was an usher. John was an avid bird watcher, tending to his many feeders daily. He also took his walks every day and collected aluminum cans.
He and his wife Virginia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary renewing their vows at St. Stephen with relatives and friends attending a reception later.
John is survived by his son, John A. (Nadine) Jojade Jr., of Hayward; one granddaughter, Robyn (Benny) Secor; four great grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas, Alisyn, and Kristyn; three step grandchildren, Joetta (Eric) Swartz, John (Jodi) and J.C. Ortega; eleven great grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Florence (Charles) Jojade; brother-in-law, William Lonsdorf; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents John is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Jojade, three brothers, Wilmatt, James and Charles; two sister, Elmira (Howard) Bandy and Grace (Herbert) Radtke; and great grandson, Noah Farrand.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday Feb. 21, 2013 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 512 McClellan St., Wausau. Rev. Gary Froseth will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday. Military rites by VFW Post 388 will be conducted.
