He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 stationed in Hawaii. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he earned his business degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a master's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was a business teacher in Winona, Minn., for many years. Later on, Jerry returned to Hawaii where he taught for many more years. He began singing and playing the ukulele to the delight of his family and friends.
