Ledbetter, Calvin O.
Calvin "Cal" O. Ledbetter, 86, Three Lakes, formerly of Edgar died Monday, December 31, 2012 in Kronenwetter.
He was born April 12, 1926 in Reform, Alabama, son of the late Wesley and Estella (Gray) Ledbetter. On June 29, 1945 he married Margaret Syring at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Washington, D.C. She survives.
For more than 31 years Cal served as the Chief of Police in Edgar. Some of his favorite pastimes included reading, watching westerns, cooking, fishing, taking walks with his wife Margaret.
Cal will always be remembered by all who knew him as a man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in a time of need.
Cal was a member of the Lions Club and served as a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Edgar Memorial Post #10187 and also the American Legion Sawyer Drumm Post #393, both of Edgar. Cal proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Seaman from 1943 to 1946 during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ledbetter, Three Lakes, his children, Lois (Jerry) Schwamman, Kronenwetter, Calvin (Lori) Ledbetter, Rockton, Illinois and Wayne Ledbetter, Brooksville, Mississippi, five grandchildren, Kelly (Greg) Koehler, Corey (Amanda) Schwamman and Shawn Schwamman and Amber and Krista Ledbetter, five great grandchildren, Shyane, Kody, Ariel, Ava and Eric. He is further survived by four step sisters, Linda Hodges, Roberta Ledbetter, Joyce Powell and Brenda (Buddy) Snow all of Alabama.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, one brother, Lavern Ledbetter, one sister, Helen Kinard and one step brother, Kenny Ledbetter.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Edgar. The Rev. LaDonna Ekern will officiate. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Circle of Joy, Edgar or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Memphis, TN.
