Arthur Hummer, 87, of Athens, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012 at Marywood Center, under Ministry Hospice Care.
He was born March 16, 1925 to Ray and Marie (Tennies) Hummer in Milwaukee. Arthur was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II
. He married Marie Hackel in 1948. Together they worked their dairy farm in the Town of Johnson and raised three children. In addition to farming he worked as a carpenter and roofer. Arthur was a member of the American Legion Chapman-Belter Post #4 and the VFW
Andrew J Sutter Post #8527, both of Athens. Along with farming, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Arthur is survived by his sons Randy (Shirley Martin) of Marathon and John (Judy) of Edgar, his daughter Judy Pederson of Wausau, nine grandchildren Shawn, Christina, Sarah, Nathan, Karie, Kevin, Sara, Bobbie Jo, and Joe; 12 great-grandchildren, and two sisters Rosemary and Margaret.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie, three brothers Charles, Ervin, and James; and one sister Mildred.
Arthur's family wishes to extend their gratitude for the exceptional care given by the staff of Marywood during the five years he resided there; also for the supportive care given by Ministry Hospice.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Athen; Father Charles Hiebl officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Mid-Wisconsin Cremation Society is assisting the family.
