Gering, Dawn M.

Dawn Marie Gering, 85, Wausau, died Friday, October 5, 2012 at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau. Dawn was born on April 16, 1927 in Wausau, daughter of the late Harold and Marion (Brickel) Pophal.

On June 30, 1951, she married Clifford Gayle Gering in Wausau. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1990.

She worked as an optometric assistant for Dr. George Wilke and Dr. Raymond Goga. She was a volunteer for Aspirus Hospice Services and the Church of Saint Anne and Resurrection Catholic Church. She had a passion for opera, classical music, babies, reading, travel, waterfalls and the north woods. She was driven by her strong faith and dedication to family. For decades she was an enthusiastic supporter of her children and grandchildren's sporting events and endeavors, often scrambling to get to multiple events in one day.

Survivors include her five children and eleven grandchildren: Rick (Sue) Gering, Wausau and their children Elizabeth and Tommy; Doug (Darlene) Gering, Schofield and their children Michelle and Becky; Tom (Lorrie) Gering, Mosinee and their children Santosh, Sydney and Devan; Jim (Shelley) Gering, Wausau and their children Ben and Morgan; John (Laurie) Gering, Wausau and their children Steve and Molli; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold "Dale" Pophal and sister Joyce Zilz; brothers-in-law Franklin (Polly) Gering, Owen (Gladys) Gering and Ed (Jean) Gering.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2012 at The Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 621 North Second Street, Wausau. The Rev. William Grevatch will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a donation to the Aspirus Hospice House and other charities of their choice.
