Doris Burr

Burr, Doris "Dedy" K.

Doris "Dedy"K. Burr, 90, died January 28, 2013, under the exemplary care of Garden Side Crossing at Mount View Care Center.

She was born June 17, 1922, in Hamilton, OH, to Rachael (Steward) and Einar Koskinen. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1940 and received her degree in dietetics from Indiana University's School of Home Economics in 1944. She became a registered dietician upon completion of a post graduate internship at the University of Minnesota, which she maintained through retirement from North Central Health Care.

It was at Indiana University that she met Thurl C. Burr, M.D. They married in 1947 at the First United Methodist Church, Wausau, and enjoyed another 63 years together. Thurl preceded her in death on February 7, 2010, as did her son, Kenneth, on August 27, 2006. Survivors include two sons, George, Sister Bay, and Donald (Laure), Minneapolis, MN, and a daughter, Anne Saliers, Holland, MI; a brother Donald S. Koskinen, Menasha; four grandsons, James Saliers, Robert Saliers, Kyle Burr and Ryan Burr; a niece; and several nephews.

Dedy loved planning, organizing and entertaining for her family, friends, church and community. An excellent homemaker, seamstress, cook and knitter, she also relished continuing education opportunities and volunteer work for the First United Methodist Church, American Association of University Women, Home Economics Club, Medical Auxiliary, Marathon County Historical Society, YWCA and many other organizations. While a stroke in her early seventies infringed upon her passions, she continued to entertain others with her wit and warmth.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 in the Memorial Chapel at the First United Methodist Church, 903 3rd St., Wausau. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Rev. Jerry Morris will officiate.
