Dorothy M. Dahlke, 83, Edgar, died on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital with family by her side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgar, with Rev. Robert Streveler officiating. Burial will take place in Edgar Cemetery and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 am until service time At St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgar. Sauter / Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford is assisting the family.
Dorothy was born on October 7, 1929 in Wing, Illinois to Samuel and Adeline (Heald) Wells. She married Raymond J. Bender on November 30, 1945. They farmed at Fairbury, IL and then moved their family to Edgar, Wisconsin where they ran a dairy farm and raised their 4 children until Raymond died in 1974. Dorothy then moved to Wausau and eventually went to work as a unit clerk for Wausau Hospital South. She worked on the OB unit for many years until her retirement from Aspirus. She married Alex J. "Curly" Dahlke in 1980 in Wuertzburg. She became mother and friend to Alex's 8 children. Family was most important to her and she enjoyed making quilts for each new addition to the family. She enjoyed being with family, gardening and canning, playing cards, fishing and going to casinos with her family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by children Raymond (Fran) Bender of Kronenwetter, Sharon Bender of Edgar, Wayne (Karen) Bender of Little Suamico, Lynda (Robert) Kraemer of Plymouth, Jerome (Janet) Dahlke of Edgar, Glen (LouAnn) Dahlke of Kronenwetter, Michael (Lynn) Dahlke of Edgar, Carol (Georgia) Dahlke of Gilbert, AZ, Veronica (Gregg) Meyer of Mauston, Gayle (Steve) Krelwitz of Ixonia, Alex (Lisa) Dahlke, Jr. and Greg Dahlke, all of Weston, 22 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is further survived by a brother, James Wells and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Wells, Bernice Bender, Mae Arnold, Florence Rinkenberger and Alice Teubel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, 4 brothers, Kenneth, Jack, Howard and Lloyd Wells and 3 sisters, Lola Wells, Bernice Kyburz and Jessie Putnam.
Memorials may be designated in Dorothy's name to St. John's Church or School.
