Frances J. Thanig died on December 25, 2012 at Kennedy Park Nursing Home, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.
Frances was born April 26, 1920, the eldest of ten children, to Joseph and Veronica (Bavlnka) Nechuta, in the Town of Mosinee. She was baptized on June 20, 1920 and confirmed her faith in Jesus Christ on July 29, 1934 at St. John Lutheran Church, Mosinee. She graduated from Rocky Ridge Grade School in the Town of Mosinee, and did domestic work until her marriage to Glen R. Thanig on December 30, 1939. Glen preceded her in death on August 30, 1985.
Frances and Glen spent most of their life farming in rural Mosinee, where she was a dedicated homemaker and mother to their four children. She sewed, crocheted, embroidered, gardened vegetables and flowers, canned produce, baked elaborate desserts and enjoyed beauty in all its forms. She had a strong concern for others, born out of her deep faith in God.
Frances loved learning, and in the last six years of her life, read over 70 books--mainly biographies of historical notables. While a resident at Kennedy Park Nursing Home, she served three years as president of the Home's Residents' Council, and won many prizes in spelling bees and other intellectual contests.
Frances will be remembered best as a woman of impeccable taste and beauty, who loved unconditionally and taught her children and grand-children to do the same.
She is grieved by her four children, Glen F. (Katsuko) Thanig, Janet (Lee) Koprowski, Gene (Penny) Thanig, all of Mosinee, and Paulette (Dennis) Creswell of Wausau; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren; her sisters, Ruth Thanig, Weston and Amelia Osterbrink, Mosinee, and her brother William (Nancy) Nechuta, Mosinee; 4 sisters-in-law: Doralyn Nechuta, Athens; Evelyn Nechuta, Mosinee; Eleanor Thanig, Mosinee; Gertrude Thanig, Milwaukee. Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her sister Veronica Brandt, and her brothers Ben Nechuta, John Nechuta, Charlie Nechuta, Joseph Nechuta, Jr. and Martin Nechuta.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday December 29, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 501 Stewart Ave., Wausau. Rev. Gary Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Mosinee cemetery, Mosinee. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday December 28, 2012 at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee and again from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.
