Lila E. Schenk

Lila E. Schenk, age 78, Bowler, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

She was born on April 10, 1935 in Tigerton, the daughter of the late Paul and Frieda (Blease) Kriegel. On April 18, 1953, Lila was united in marriage to Delmar Schenk at St. John's Lutheran Church, Tigerton. He survives.

Lila taught organ and piano for many years. She was organist for St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Bowler for over 40 years. Lila also had her own polka band, "Lila Schenk and the Goodtimes Band". She received the Orchestra Leader Award in 1992, and was the only female ever in Wisconsin to be recognized for this achievement. Lila was currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bowler.

In addition to her husband, Delmar, survivors include three children, Keith Schenk, Tigerton, Patricia Schenk, Wausau and Pamela Gehring, San Diego; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two sisters, Marjorie (Jack) Horn, Appleton and Delores Diener, Pelican Lake.

The Funeral service will be held at 11AM on Monday, June 17, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bowler. The Rev. Michael Schram will officiate. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4PM to 8PM at the Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg and again on Monday from 10AM until the time of service at the church.
