Stankowski, Marcella M.

Marcella M. Stankowski (maiden name Kort), age 82, lifelong resident of Rothschild/Weston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.

Mrs. Stankowski was born in Mosinee, Wisconsin on March 28, 1931 to Irene (Oprzyndek) Marsh and Bertram F. Marsh. She was later adopted by Wallace H. Kort.

In 1949 Marcella was united in marriage with Dominic J. Stankowski at St. Mary's Church in Wausau, Wisconsin.

After graduating from Wausau High School, Marcella pursued a career as secretary to the principal of D C Everest High School. Her career included 40 years of service before her retirement in 1990. One of her favorite activities after retirement was her volunteer service accompanying patients from Colonial Manor to their medical appointments. She carried crackers in her pockets for the patients during unexpectedly long waits.

Her full and happy life included travel with her husband and sister. Marcella enjoyed reading, politics, scintillating reparté and wintering in Fort Myers, Florida. She was gracious and kind and will be sorely missed by her many friends and loving family. Marcella was a breast cancer survivor.

Mrs. Stankowski is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Dominic, their two children Jessica (Robert) O'Donnell, McFarland, Wisconsin and Michael (Charlotte) Stankowski, Greenville, Wisconsin; grandchildren Nathan (Jennifer) Stankowski, Libbe (Mark) Slavin, and Hayley O'Donnell; great-grandchildren Madison Stankowski and Ella and Bode Slavin. She is further survived by her sister, Millicent Baltus of Appleton, Wisconsin; in-laws Ted Johnson, Edwin (Lucille) Stankowski, Mrs. Severin (Marie) Stankowski, Ernest (Mary) Stankowski, Evelyn Nowak and Virginia (Cliff) Falkowski, treasured nieces and nephews, beloved family and dear friends.

There will be visitation from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, December 17 and from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 18 at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at St. Mark Catholic Church in Rothschild at 11:30 am. Burial in the family plot at St. Patrick's cemetary in Halder will be at a later date.
