Robert M. Gilbertson

Robert M. Gilbertson, 85, Elderon, died on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at his home.

He was born on December 7, 1928 in Merrill, the son of the late Oliver and Mary (Jarish) Gilbertson.

Robert was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam. He was a life member of Wm. F. Speel DAV Chapter 18, Appleton and was a member of the Elderon Memorial Post #8068 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

After his retirement from the Navy, Bob lived in Rio Linda, CA for many years. As his mother's health declined, he felt the need to be back home and near her. He returned to Elderon and then re-retired from Elderon Truck where he did detailing and reupholstery, a job he really was good at and enjoyed. Robert lived life to the fullest, and enjoyed spending time and socializing with his friends and family.

Survivors include two brothers, Steven (Bonnie) Gilbertson, Brasstown, NC and Michael (Georgeann) Gilbertson, Elcho; two sisters, Betty Elliott, Elderon and Sharon (Merrill) Cornell, Appleton; nieces and nephews, Bob, Jay, Cheri, Susan, Michael, Mary, Melissa, Jason, Debbie and Galen; special niece and her husband, Darla and Keith Opper of Wittenberg and special friends, Bruna Norman, Joe, David and Alex Schramm.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Galen Scharer, a sister, Ruth Phillips, and a nephew, Ron Elliott.

A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg. Deacon David Ashenbrenner will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
