Rolland Kersten

Rolland A. Kersten, 96, Wittenberg, died Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Homme Home of Wittenberg.

He was born to the late Henry and Anna (Harke) Kersten on July 30, 1917 in Wittenberg, WI. On July 12, 1942 he married Dorothy (Buettner) in Clintonville, WI. She preceded him in death in 1986. Together they had one daughter, Karleen Franken. She preceded him in death in 2010.

Rollie was truck driver for many years until his retirement in1987. He was also an avid baseball player including semi-professional ball with the Clintonville Truckers. He enjoyed many years of fishing, golfing, hunting and spending time with friends and family. He was a loyal fan of the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers and Wittenberg Pilots. He was also a proud member of the Wittenberg Volunteer Fire Department for many years, the Wittenberg-Birnamwood FFA, and the Wittenberg Lions Club.

He is survived by one granddaughter, Shelly (Scott) Spulak, Schofield; two grandsons, Eric (Rochelle) Franken, Wausau and Tony (fiancée Sally) Franken, Schofield; four great-grandchildren, Chloe and Andrew Franken, Ashley Hofmann and Aubrey Spulak; two great-great grandchildren, Grace and Gretchen Hofmann and one brother, Milan (Vian) Kersten of Wittenberg. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, wife and daughter, Rolland was preceded in death by two sisters, Vernetta Kersten and Ardell (Joe) Lex and one brother Allen (Florence Kersten-Werth) Kersten.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. Rev. Amy Meyer will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Wittenberg. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4pm until 7pm at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg and on Thursday from 10am until the time of services at the church.
