Steven Wallace Fritz (Mary La Porte), 58, of Rothschild, passed away at his home Monday, December 10, 2012.
He was born September 5, 1954 to Wallace and Dorothy (Schoehofen) Fritz in Wausau. Steven was dedicated to his community and his family. After serving as a firefighter
for 13 years he became the Fire Chief for the Rothschild Fire Department in 2007. After completing his education in electronic services at Northcentral Technical College he went to work for Domtar Mill as an electrician; where he worked for 38 years. He was an EMS instructor for NTC and the surrounding area for more than 20 years. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and camping. Steven loved riding his Harley and participated in many benefit rides . Steve had a special fondness for animals.
Steve was very devoted to his family. He was a good father, son, brother, uncle, and was always available when he was needed. As fire chief, he was very proud of his department and saw them as extended family. He knew the time and effort each one put forth to be a member and tried to be available to them if he could be of any assistance.
Steven is survived by his sons Ben of Weston and Chad of Wausau, his parents Wallace and Dorothy, and one sister Shelley (Bruce) LaPort of Wausau. He is further survived by his mother-in-law Jean Raphoon, one sister-in-law Susan (Mike) Baldwin, three nephews Dusty LaPorte, Mike Dobrinska, and Joe Baldwin, and five nieces Larissa (Doug) Rebhahn, Alaina LaPorte, Angie Baldwin, Kerry (Steve) Draxler, and Emily Brose.
He was preceded in death by his wife Karen, a sister Susan Dobrinska, and a sister-in-law Mary Brose.
Memorials can be given to The Humane Society or the Rothschild Fire Department .
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Patriot Center. Pastor Richard Block officiating. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, December 14, 2012 from 4:00p.m.-8:00p.m. at the Patriot Center and Saturday 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. John J. Buettgen Funeral Home is serving the family.
