Warren D. Steege Obituary
Steege, Warren D.

Warren D. Steege, 82, Wausau, went home to live with his heavenly Father on Friday, March 22, 2013 with his wife and family at his side. Warren was born March 24, 1930 in the town of Grant, Shawano County, near Marion, Wisconsin on the farm of his late parents Samuel and Lola ( Riege) Steege.

While growing up and working on his family's farm he attended McKinley grade school. He later received his GED while he proudly served his country in the Marine Corps. On September 10. 1955 he married Beverly Buchholz in Clintonville, WI. While he resided in Clintonville he worked at the FWD, and later at Wanta Floral. It was his love of flowers that brought him and family to Wausau in 1971. Floral design was one of his greatest talents and passions. He was employed at Leap's Greenhouse for many years and then later at Superior Audio Visual in Sales. In addition to flowers, those who knew Warren knew about his favorite "apple tree". Learning years before the technique of grafting branches while in 4-H, he was proud to say he transformed the crab apple tree in his back yard to a tree growing 8 different varieties of apples at one time. Warren enjoyed photography, woodworking, tinkering with his vehicles, and various home projects. Additionally, he also enjoyed bowling, surprising both family and friends with his skills and scores. He grew up playing dart ball and many years later realized that Wausau had a dart ball league and was instrumental in helping form a team from his church.

Warren was always involved in church serving his Lord, no matter where he lived. While in Wausau he was an active member at Immanuel Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon in his earlier years. He was involved in music ministry in various ways, either singing with the choir, in quartets or singing solos. He was frequently requested to sing at both weddings and funerals. Music gave him much enjoyment. Warren had a great love for his heavenly Father; as a young man he trusted in Jesus as his Savior. Therefore, the family knows that Warren is now in heaven with his Lord in heaven.

Warren enjoyed spending time with his family and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly and their children, Chris (Marie) Steege, Wausau, Pamela (Arthur) Dickinson, Plymouth, MN, Rex Steege, Wausau, and Wayne (Melissa) Steege, Corcorin, MN, 10 grandchildren, Justin (Hannah) Steege, Bradley Steege, Erin Steege, Eric Steege, Katherine Dickinson, Willis Dickinson, Madeline Dickinson, Leandra (Matthew) Kennedy, Zachery Steege, and Anna Steege, and great-granddaughter Elsa Kennedy. Warren is also survived by brothers Elden (Nadine) Steege, Shawano, WI, and Charles (Lois) Steege, Milltown, WI, He is preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Rib Mountain. Pastor Engel will officiate. Friends may call at 10:00 am until the time of service at the church. The family would like to thank Wausau Manor, Sylvan's Crossing, and Aspirus Hospice for their tender loving nursing care provided to Warren. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in his commandments. Psalms 112:1. Mid-Wisconsin Cremation Society is assisting the family.
