Buchberger, Albert, 80, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Homeplace memory care facility in Dorchester with family members at his side. He was born on March 8, 1933 in Wausau to Albert and Florence (Matushak) Buchberger.
Albert is survived by his wife Marge; son Steve (Cathie) of Wisconsin Rapids; daughters Lynn (Bob) Dunahee of Port Edwards, Cathy of Oldsmar, FL and Michelle (Jim) Cveykus of Mosinee; four brothers George (Mary) of Wausau, Tom (Sharon) of Wisconsin Rapids, David (Rosie) of Mosinee, and Ron (Richard) of Dunedin, FL; eight grandchildren Carrie, Jordan, Amy, Andrew, Kristi, Kory, Bryson and Peyton; and five great grandchildren Ashlyn, Zachary, Isla, Carter, and Katelyn.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gerald Buchberger and infant great grandchildren.
Albert grew up in Wausau but spent most of his life in Wisconsin Rapids. He joined the Merchant Marine upon finishing high school. He worked on the Great Lakes for 2 years followed by 2 years in the US Army. He married Marjorie Wilichowski in 1957 in Marathon City.
Albert was a Wisconsin state patrol officer from 1957 to 1969 and worked for the Wood County parks commission for many years. He then followed his passion, starting his business, Al's Carpentry, building and remodeling numerous homes and businesses in the area.
Albert was active at St. Vincent de Paul Church as an usher and RCIA sponsor. He was invested in his community, serving on Wood County board committees and serving on the board for the Town of Grand Rapids. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Grand Rapids Lions.
Visitation will be held at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 4:00-7:00 PM and Thursday at the Church from 10:30-11:30 AM. Funeral services will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 820 13th St. South, Wisconsin Rapids at 11:30 AM Thursday. Entombment will follow at Forest Hill Mausoleum.
