Barbara Russ, age 75 of Wausau, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Colonial Manor Medical and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, Wausau.
She was born on January 16, 1937 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Leonard and Vernette (Dobberstein) Pijan. On January 16, 1960 she married Harold Russ at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Wausau, and they became a family with his three children. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Barbara worked for Kraft Foods, Marathon Rubber, and Wausau Insurance prior to retiring. She was very involved with her church at St. Stephen Lutheran, where she taught Sunday school for many years, made visits to shut-ins, and volunteered in the church office. Some of Barb's favorite past times were camping, fishing and gardening. The highlight of her days were spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Survivors include son, Ronald Russ, Wausau, daughter, Sandy (Carl) Stuhr and son Jason (Jennifer) Russ, Weston; she is also survived by Faye(Tom) Gordon, Irma, Wayne "Butch" (Debbie) Russ, Merrill and Mike (Beth) Russ, Wausau; siblings, Nancy Pijan, Wausau, Leonard (Brenda) Pijan, Wausau, John (Sharon) Pijan, Wausau, Susan (Joseph) Brisch, Brooksville, FL, David (Peggy) Pijan, Juneau, AK; brother-in-law, Gerald (Lois) Russ, Mosinee; sister-in-law, Beverly (Rudy) Baptist, Wausau; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was further preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Carrie Russ, and two grandsons, Keith Liss and James Stuhr.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St. Wausau, and on Monday, October 15, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 am at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 512 McClellan St. Wausau. The Rev. David Klutterman will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau on Tuesday October 16, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
