Carl Hunsicker Obituary

Carl was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Wausau, the son of the late William and Hilda (Gralow) Hunsicker. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific. After returning from the war, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service. On Sept. 2, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Mertes in Dubuque, Iowa. After retiring as a postal supervisor, he worked as a personal banker at First American, and as a social worker at Marathon County Social Services.

He enjoyed spending time up north at various cottages the family owned throughout the years. He was a talented painter and wood carver, creating many keepsakes of ducks and swans for his family.

At the age of 87, Carl William Hunsicker died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Marywood Center, Wausau.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine, Wausau; four children, Dr. Paul (Susan) Hunsicker Sr., Tomahawk, and Mark Hunsicker, Kurt Hunsicker and Tina (John) Allstaedt, all of Wausau; five grandchildren, Paul (Peggy) Jr., David (Becky), Justin, Jake (Christina) and Hannah; and three great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William; and infant daughter, Christine Carol.

A funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at Christ Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Rev. David Wetmore will officiate. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Full military honors will be provided by VFW Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. The family will receive guests beginning at 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

I remember when Carl was our counsellor for our youth group at Zion in Wausau. They called it Walther League. He was one of the most patient men that I knew at that time and I often wondered how he put up with our conduct at times. No matter what we did, he always demonstrated a positive attitude. He was definitely a man who influenced me in a godly manner. Blessings to all of you who loved him.
