Charles L. Holzem, age 75, of Schofield died on Friday, March 29, 2013 at Mt. View Care Center surrounded by his loving family.
Charles was born on September 17, 1937 in Wausau to the late Christian and Amelia (Schneck) Holzem. He was a self made business man who received his education from St. Marys Catholic and Newman Catholic High School. Chuck was a union painter and later became an independent painting contractor. In 2009 he obtained an Outstanding Service Award for 50 years of dedication to the painters union. Chuck married Doris Klemp-Koziel on April 9, 1976.
Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family especially his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved watching "The Wheel" with his wife and his last words to her each night were always "Hun, I love you." He also always looked forward to the Holzem family reunions. Chuck was an avid outdoorsmen and loved hunting, going "Up North," gardening, and decorating the outside of their home for holidays. He attended church at St. Marks Catholic Parish, did the Rosary on a daily basis and enjoyed his conversations with Father Al. Chuck was a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers, and Nascar, especially Dave Marcus who was his childhood friend. Chuck lived his life with meaning and purpose. He enjoyed helping those whom he loved and cared for. He will be sadly missed by all his family members.
Charles is survived by his wife Doris Holzem of Schofield; children Mary (Daniel) Mueller of Wausau, Cheryl (Thomas) Wisniewski of Marshfield, David (Charlene) Koziel of Tomahawk, and Debra Koziel of Schofield; grandchildren Derik Mueller and Tina (Tyson) Clyne; and great grandchildren Alexander, Zachary, and Elizabeth Clyne; siblings Marcella Berndt of Wausau, Arlene Loss of Wausau, Anna Mae Babicky of Weston, Alex (Barbara) Holzem of Wausau, Marvin (Marge) Holzem of Wisconsin Dells, Cecilia (Robert) Gwidt of Schofield, Christine (Roger) Sefton of Texas, and Sandy Dorshak of Schofield; and sisters-in-law Mary Jane and Phyllis, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Gregory Holzem, Kathleen Van Vrede, and Donald Holzem; brothers-in-law Art Berndt, Eugene VanVrede and James Babicky.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Mark Catholic Parish, 602 Military Road, Rothschild. The Rev. Allan Slowiak will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until the time of service at the church on Friday.
