Sullivan, John L.

John L. Sullivan, age 70, passed away in Wausau, on October 25th, 2013.

John was born in Wisconsin Rapids on November 9th, 1942, the son of Russell and Dora (Pember) Sullivan. He was married to Sharon Lieble "my love" on December 31, 1961 in Wisconsin Rapids. Sharon and John moved to Wausau for John's first job at Wausau Iron Works. He later worked at Wire Products, followed by Purpose Extruded Aluminum and Powdered Paint Technology. John had a great love for all of his family members and was proud of his 5 children, grandkids and extended family. John enjoyed the holidays and all the family gatherings and especially enjoyed Christmas with the lights and Christmas tree. He was a good cook and enjoyed baking cookies. He enjoyed fishing and hunting deer and ducks in his younger years. Over the years, one of his favorite times of the year was taking his family to Pitlicks Sand Beach resort where John also went as a child. John later enjoyed going "up north" to his daughter's cabin where he enjoyed fishing with "the girls" and spending time in the great northwoods. It was a place where he felt "alive". John enjoyed watching hours and hours of football, basketball, and baseball. He followed the stock market on a daily basis watching all of the business channels. One of his favorite hobbies was going grocery shopping as he would find the best bargains. He kept the freezer and cupboards overflowing with food. John loved feeding people and making sure no one went hungry. He was proud of his Irish heritage and his Irish eyes would be smiling on St. Patricks day. John and Sharon have been members of St. Matthew Catholic Church for the past 40 years.

John is survived by his wife, Sharon Sullivan; 5 children: Susan Sullivan of Wausau, Mike (Chris) Sullivan of Mosinee, Brian Sullivan of Wausau, Dan (Courtney) Sullivan of Madison, and Kristi (Chad) Smith of Wausau; and 8 grandchildren Brina (Brian) Sullivan, Shay and Jayden (Mike) Sullivan, Audrey, Cassidy, and Griffin (Dan) Sullivan, and Aidan and Austin (Kristi) Smith. He is also survived by his four siblings, Pat, Robert, Maureen, and Kathleen and his 103 year old mother Dora. He was preceded in death by father Russell, grandson Nathan and great nephew Ryan.

A funeral for John will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30th, 2013 at ST MATTHEW CATHOLIC CHURCH, 229 S. 28th Ave., Wausau, with Father Bob officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.at the church.
