Hinkens, Michael D.



Michael D. Hinkens, age 30 of Wausau, passed suddenly of a severe asthma attack on Friday, March 29, 2013 at Saint Clare's Hospital, Weston.

He was born on May 13, 1982 in Wisconsin Rapids, son of Douglas and Christy (DeCoster) Hinkens. Michael was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, and a 2000 graduate of Wausau West. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps after graduation and Michael was stationed in Japan and North Carolina. He had two deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq and was a distinguished Combat Veteran. Michael was very patriotic and loyal to his country and was proud of his time served. Michael attended college at UW-Marathon County. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was very loyal to family and friends and loved spending time with them. Michael is greatly missed by family and friends. His family supports and is proud of his prior decision to help others as an organ donor; his spirit shall continue to live on through others.

Survivors include his parents, Doug and Christy Hinkens of Rib Mountain; his brother, Craig (Lynnette Lehman) Hinkens of Wausau; sister, Penny (John) Happli, Rib Mountain; grandmothers, Mary Hinkens, Appleton, and Anna DeCoster, Freedom, WI; aunts and uncles, Dave (Kari) Hinkens, Townsend, Diane Baumgart, Hortonville, Debbie (Bob) Lauer, Greenville, Dennis (Char) DeCoster, Mike (Carrie) DeCoster, Bob "Twink" (Amy Kading) DeCoster, Dave (Rose) DeCoster, all of Freedom, Kenny DeCoster, De Pere, Kathy DeCoster, Appleton, Tom (Dawn) DeCoster, Kaukauna, Jeff (Maggie) DeCoster, Freedom; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his two grandfathers, Mark DeCoster and Romy Hinkens, and his cousin, Jessie Baumgart.

Visitation in Wausau will be Tuesday April 2, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Brainard Funeral Home - Everest Chapel, 5712 Memorial Court, Weston. Military Honors conducted at 6:00 p.m. by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, and prayer service at 8:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, W2037 Co Rd S, Freedom, WI. Visitation in Freedom will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Freedom VFW Post 7692.
