Haling, Vernon

Vernon Haling, 80, Mosinee, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born May 9, 1933 in Wausau to William and Stella (Harris) Haling. On October 24, 1955 he married Anna Eleanor Mulder in Pine City, MN. She preceded him in death March 9, 1989.

Vernon attended Mosinee schools where his friends called him "Bugs." He joined the United States Navy in 1950. In 1953 he became an Aviation Machinist mate jet mechanic, where he retired as an E-7 at North Island, California in 1972. Vernon went on to work a few years at Weston Graphic Services as a technical writer before moving on to Generac Corp in Waukesha, where he retired in 1994 writing technical manuals. He was a member of the Mosinee VFW Post 8733.

Vernon loved football, fishing, hunting, horseshoes, playing games with his family and friends, being on his computer and praying.

Survivors include four children, Katherine Paradise, Hanna City, Ill., Richard (Jackie) Haling, West Salem, Patricia Haling (Kurt Crandall), Janesville and John Haling, Hopkinsville, KY; 7 grandchildren and 4 extended, 4 great grandchildren and 8 extended; brother, Russell (Betty) Haling, Arizona; sister-in-law, Betty Geoffrey; his beloved partner of many happy years, Carol Dziak, who he loved with all his heart, and nieces and nephews, Tom (Charlene) Dulak, Richard Mulder, Sharon Chapman, Hank and Lorna.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Haling, siblings, Lawrence Haling, Bob Geoffrey, Marvin Geoffrey and Loretta Haling Edenhoffer; and a son-in-law, Arthur Paradise.

Services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Our Savior National Catholic Church, Mosinee. Rev. Marion Talaga will officiate. Burial will be in Mosinee Cemetery, Mosinee. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, January 24, 2014 at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee and again from 11:30 - 12:30 pm Saturday all at the funeral home. There will be a VFW service at 7:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.
