Wetzel, Vernon

Vernon G. Wetzel, 89, Wausau, died Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Mount View Health Care Center.

Vernon was born October 7, 1924 to the late Victor and Erma (Hoffman) in Two Rivers. He married Ruth (Erdmann) on July 17, 1948 in Wausau. Vernon served his country honorably in the United States Navy during WWII. He was employed with General Motors as a Division Sales Manager and retired in 1979.

Vernon and Ruth loved wintering in Betmar Retirement Village in Zephryrills, FL for 34 years. They have many memories of their children and grandchildren visiting them in Betmar. When the children were young they shared many moments at the cottage in northern Wisconsin, fishing, swimming and enjoying family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years; Ruth, three children; Bruce (Jan) Wetzel, Rib Mountain, Cherie (Tom) Heger, Loveland, CO, Cindy (Jeff) Kobrock, Gardiner, Maine; grandchildren, Holly, Eric, Jason, Scott and Emily ; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Dick) Werner, Medford ; brother-in-law, Charles (Joyce) Erdmann, Wausau, sister-in-law, Dorothy Erdmann, Merrill, many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by; sister, Pat, brother-in-law, Harold, and brother-in-law, Frank.

Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 600 Stevens Drive. Rev. Chris Sansom will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of services at the church. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park. Full military honors will be conducted by the VFW Burns Post #388.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mark Lutheran Church.
