Harold Frank Goelden, age 80, of Wausau, died peacefully at Benedictine Manor of Wausau on Thursday, March 13, 2014. He was born on October 4, 1933 in Marathon County to Laura (Strebe) and Frank Goelden.
He attended Abbotsford Schools, and graduated in 1951 from Abbotsford High School. On June 4, 1955, he married JoAnne (Markus) Goelden at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, WI. He served as Staff Sergeant Track Vehicle Specialist in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. Harold and JoAnne moved to Wausau in 1957; where he worked as an auto and truck mechanic at Ryan/Bob Johnson Chevrolet and Wausau Truck Sales, Inc. until he started Goelden Trucking Company, which he proudly ran as an owner/operator until his retirement.
Harold loved the outdoors and had a passion for gardening; and enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR, Green Bay Packer, and Wisconsin Badger sporting events. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was especially proud of his grandchildren.
Harold is survived by his wife of 58 years, JoAnne Goelden; son, Michael (Wendy) Goelden of Wausau; daughter, Nancy (Alan) Keller of Janesville, WI; two grandchildren, Theresa Keller and Scott Goelden; and a step-grandson, Jonathan Waldvogel. He is also survived by his sister, Elvira (Robert) Kilty of Spencer; and his brother-in-law, David (Ila) Markus of Marshfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laura Leonard and Frank Goelden; step-father, Edgar Leonard; father-in-law, Rod Markus; mother-in-law, Malinda Markus; and brother-in-law, Robert Kilty.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 17, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St., Wausau. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home following the visitation with Pastor Joel Brandt officiating. A private entombment service will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
Harold will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at Aspirus Wausau Hospital and the staffs at Kennedy Park Nursing & Rehab Center of Schofield and Benedictine Manor of Wausau for their exceptional care of Harold and his family during this difficult time.
