Harris, Richard

Richard Arthur Harris, 81, of Wausau, died Monday, March 31, 2014 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born in Springfield, Ohio on May 29, 1932 to the late Malcolm and Mary (Snyder) Harris. He graduated from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio with a degree in Business. Richard married Susan Schreiber on January 4, 1982.

Richard was employed at Vining Broom Company of Springfield, OH when he purchased the Wausau Broom Company in 1956. After owning the broom company for several years, he started his own company, R. Harris Marketing and was a Manufacturer's Representative until his retirement. Richard was a very successful businessman whose excellence in sales earned him national recognition, being named the top salesman in the U.S. from 1972 - 1978, for Monarch Industries.

He was a member of the Wausau Elks Lodge #248.

Richard and Sue loved to travel including memorable trips to Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, and of course fishing trips to Canada. He also liked his occasional trip to the casino, "if he won," bird watching, and heading up north either to Lost Lake or Sugar Camp. Richard always enjoyed his Bloody Mary lunches with Anna and his many friends at the Hiawatha. However, the most important thing to Richard was his family. He was blessed with so many fun times spent with his children and grandchildren, and cherished every moment with them.

Richard lived a full and rewarding life and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Mae of Wausau; three sons, Ric Harris (Sarah) of Spencer, Matthew (Marla) Harris, and Luke Harris (Danielle Chahdi) both of Wausau; three daughters, Christa (Ronald) Blaubach of Wausau, Terry Harris of DePere, and Terre Swemke of Wausau; ten grandchildren, Josh (Becki) Blaubach, Mary Kate (Thayer) Bestul, Ben Harris, Aaron Ebensperger, Tre Swemke, Eli Swemke, Daisy Mae, Liliana, Annabel Rose and Jack Harris, all of Wausau. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Lucas Rhyner and Ryan Blaubach.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Kit Harris Mader.
