Leggett, Dennis

Dennis J. Leggett, 62, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in the comfort of his home, of natural causes, in Kronenwetter, WI.

He was born in Milwaukee on October 25, 1951 to the late Ernest W. and Lillian H. (Witt) Leggett.

Denny enjoyed everything about the outdoors, boating, golfing, fishing, hunting, trap shooting and anything related to nature. He also loved woodworking, the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, NASCAR racing and his four- legged companions, cats Gus and Mandy.

Dennis was proud of his service to our country. He enlisted in the Army in 1969, and his military career spanned over 32 years. During this time he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Mount Senario College, graduating Cum Laude. He retired as a Master Sergeant E-8.

His first job was at the age of 12, working at his uncle's hardware store, The West Allis Trading Post. It was the beginning of a lifelong education in the value of hard work, commitment to family and how to fix nearly everything. In recent years, Denny filled his time volunteering at the VA, actively supporting the VFW and enjoying time at their home on the Wisconsin River.

Survivors include his loving wife and best friend of 29+ years, Joan; sister, Patricia (Craig) Klug, Milwaukee; nephews, Joshua (Heidi) Klug and Jared (Becca) Klug; great nephew, Memphis Klug as well as Joan's family whom he embraced as his own. He is further survived by his adopted son, Dean and many other relatives and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Jerry R. Dott; his first wife, Mary Jo; and his beloved yellow "Labradog" Buddie.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee. Full Military Honors will be presented by the Peplin VFW Post 8280. Friends may call from 9:00 am until the time of the service, Saturday, at the funeral home.

Following the service, a gathering will be held at the Peplin VFW Post on Hwy 153, to celebrate and honor Dennis' life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Denny's name may be directed to the Peplin VFW Post 8280, Peplin, WI.
