Michalski, BerJeta

BerJeta E. "Birdie" Michalski passed away peacefully, and now is free, after her long courageous battle with Alzheimer's at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

She was born in Wausau, February 8, 1936 to William and Vesta (Gleis) Melanson. Birdie married the love of her life, Charles Michalski Jr. on May 1, 1954. They would be celebrating 60 years this May.

Birdie enjoyed her special times at their cottage, fishing, their many trips to Florida, flowers, watching humming birds and an occasional trip to the casino. She had worked at the Ben Franklin and Jim's Super Market in her younger years, where she made many longtime friends. Mom taught us that the little things in life mean so much and to never give up.

She was an amazing wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother who was loved deeply and will be truly missed by her husband and family.

Birdie is survived by her loving and caring husband, Charles, Mosinee; six children, Tom (Diane) Michalski, Mosinee, Jean (John) Oatman, Marathon, Linda (Allen) Hotchkiss, Mosinee, Mike (Kelly) Michalski, Mosinee, Jeff (Pam) Michalski, Mosinee and Pam (Rocco) Hladovcak, Mosinee; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; a brother, William (Lorraine) Melanson, Wausau and many nieces and nephews. Birdie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary (Harold) Lewitzke; a grandson, Chad Hotchkiss and 2 great grandchildren, Emma Nickila and Treyden Kurtzweil.

Services will be at 11:00 am Monday, April 21, 2014 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. The Rev. Donald Przybylski will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Mosinee. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of the service, Monday at the church.
