Jerome "Jerry" Wesenick

Jerome "Jerry" Wesenick, 75, Wausau, died Monday, June 2nd, 2014 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.

Jerry was born October 17th, 1938 in Merrill to the late Raphel and Alice (Behling) Wesnick. He was raised on his family farm and met Mary Lou Koch early in life. Jerry proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1961 to 1965. In October 1967, Jerry and Mary Lou became best friends and lovers for 47 years. The couple raced horses (trotters and pacers) throughout the Midwest. Jerry also drove truck for Mortenson and Stone Lumber from the mid 1960's until the 1983 and later in Illinois for the Delong Company hauling fertilizer and feed. Later years found Jerry and Mary Lou working together as Park Hosts in State and National Parks and most notably at Washington Island Park.

Throughout their lives together, the couple enjoyed deer hunting and fishing together. They also enjoyed travelling and wintering in Texas for many years. Jerry was a proud member of the Marathon County Agricultural Society, the US Trotter Association, past member of the Northern Illinois Colt Association and the Wausau Boot and Saddle Club.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou; sister, Joan (Jim) Farr of Green Bay; nieces, Susan (Kevin) Marcott and Lynette (Rob) Timler; nephew, Scott (Kathleen) Farr; 2 great-nieces; 4 great-nephews; Jerry and Mary Lou's adopted family, Donald and Carolyn Nolen and their children, Megan, Collin and Justin; dear friends, Dale and Patti Klinger; special cousin, Gordon and Marie Osborne and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Wesenick.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 7th at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Father James Arthur will officiate. VFW Post #388 will confer military honors following the service at the funeral home. Visitation will be on Friday, June 6th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home.
