Mary Margaret (nee Edelman) Murphy was called to eternal life on August 24 2014 at the age of 80 years. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Thomas S. Murphy; cherished mother of Mike (Therese) Murphy, Anne (Chuck) Nahn, Patricia (Jim) Walden, Jeanne (Joe) Amicarelli, and Daniel (Ana Maria) Murphy; proud and loving grandmother of Sarah, Jimmy, Jeffrey, Daniel, Katherine, Claire, Maddie, Max, Peter, Colin, Audrey, Sean and Megan; caring sister of Joe (Jean) Edelman. Mary was preceded in death by parents, Cecil and Margaret Edelman, brother John (Ruth) Edelman and sister Elizabeth (Charles) Goldsworthy.
Mary was born on September 26th 1933 in Antigo, WI. Mary graduated from Antigo High School in 1951 and from UW Madison in 1955, with a degree in Occupational Therapy. Mary served as an officer in the US Army Medical Corps for 2 years following college graduation. Mary married Tom Murphy at St. John's Church, Antigo, WI on December 29, 1956. Mary devoted herself to raising her 5 children. In addition to caring for her family Mary enjoyed art, theater, travel, tennis, bridge and reading. She was a member of the Wausau Country Club, P.E.O. Chapter DA and her beloved "lunch bunch". Mary was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Sarasota FL, and Church of the Resurrection, Wausau, WI.
Visitation will be held at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St., Wausau, on Friday August 29th from 4:00-6:00PM and again at St. Michael Catholic Church, 611 Stark St., Wausau, on Saturday August 30th at 9:00AM until the time of the funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. Bill Grevatch, will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church on Saturday August 30th at 10:00AM.
A private family committal service will be held at St. Michael's Cemetery following the mass.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers of Aspirus Comfort Care and Home Hospice and the Hospice House for their care and support.
