John Edward (Jarnes) Cooke

John Cooke, 71, died peacefully Thursday, July 28, 2011, in Stillwater, Okla., with caring companions at his bedside.
Born July 11, 1940, in Green Bay, John was raised in Wausau.
He was preceded in death by parents, Elmer Jarnes and June Cooke Radandt; and brother, James "Curley" Cooke.
He is survived by a beloved niece, Cynthia Marie Cooke of Seattle; and cherished "auntie," Dorothy Kunze of Wausau.
John served in the Army band at Fort Sill, Okla. A resident of Oklahoma since 1970, John was a talented musician, singer, percussionist and songwriter who performed with jazz/pop professionals in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas, and across the nation. John appeared with artists such as Buddy Holly, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.
In 2003, John retired from OKC Sportsman's Country Club and moved to Stillwater where he continued to play music. In his lifetime, John entertained thousands of people. His gentle manner, unfailing humor and unique talent shall be missed.
Interment of Cooke's ashes will be in Wausau.
