Theodore Hallas Sr., 91, 1878 South Road, Mosinee, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Weston.

He was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Kronenwetter, the son of the late Frank Sr. and Mary (Babiarz) Hallas. He married Josephine Tomczak on Nov. 30, 1946, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. She died March 5, 1990.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II with the 82nd Airborne Division. He received the Bronze Star for his efforts at the Battle of the Bulge, and was a member of the VFW Peplin Post 8280. Theodore hauled milk with his brother Ed in the Mosinee area, then worked for the Mosinee Paper Corporation, retiring in 1982, as a millwright. He was an avid Packer fan and liked hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and was involved in starting the Peplin Snowmobile Club.

Survivors include four sons, Dennis Hallas, King, and Theodore (JoEllen) Hallas, Sidney (Linda) Hallas and Ken (Marcia) Hallas, all of Mosinee; three daughters, Linda Horak, Debora (Randy) Gorski and Audrey Hallas, all of Mosinee; a daughter-in-law, Debi Hallas; 17 grandchildren, James, Tracy, Heidi, Jennifer, Becka, Tamm, Sean, Amy, Sheila, Phillip, Andy, Heather, Nicolas, Amanda, Preston, Hannah and Joshua; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Mitzi) Hallas and Frank (Carol) Hallas, both of Mosinee; two sisters, Stella Dombrowski, Chippewa Falls, and Steffe Pawlak, Mosinee; and his dog, Indy.

He was preceded in death by four daughters; a son-in-law, Joe Horak; three brothers, Ed, Bill and Walter, and two sisters, Fran and Wanda.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., Dec. 20, 2011, at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee. The Rev. Kim Swanson will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Beste Funeral Home, where at 7 p.m. there will be a VFW service. Visitation will also be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
