Richard T. Mayer, 72, of Wausau, died Monday, March 25, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born July 9, 1940 in Wausau to the late Theodore and Emily (Gwidt) Mayer. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.
Richard served on the County Board from 1968-1988, was County Board Chairman from 1978 - 1980, Solid Waste Management Board from Sept. 1988 - April 2013, and was chairman from 1980 - 1988. He also served on the Personnel Committee, Joint City-County Human Resources Committee, Reapportionment Committee, advisory Committee, and Emergency Government Committee. Richard was a member of Central Business Redevelopment Steering Committee, an Alderman for the 5th District and Water Utility Commissioner. He served on the Wausau Police and Fire Commission from 1997 - 2005. He was a member of the Wausau Elk's Lodge #248 where he was Audit Committee Chair for 22 years and a 53 year member. Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Charter member of the Wausau Noon Optimist, and the Wausau Area Chamber of Commerce where he also served as an Ambassador.
He was a 3rd generation owner of C.B. Mayer Shoe Company. Before retiring Richard was a Business Development Officer with Associated Bank N.A. Wausau from Jan. 2, 1991 - Jan. 4, 2006.
He was an avid golfer, and stamp collector and his younger years he enjoyed military model building. He loved spending time with his friends.
He is survived by his sister, Judy (Gary) Leven of Barrington, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Church Of The Resurrection Of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 621 N. 2nd Ave., Wausau. Rev. Timothy Welles will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday.
