Pevonka-Putzer, Mary E.

Mary E. Pevonka-Putzer, age 94, of Clintonville, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2013 at Shawano Medical Center.

Mary Elizabeth Schreier was born on February 16, 1919, at Wausau, WI, to George and Elizabeth (Schlimm) Schreier. She attended elementary and high school in Wausau, graduating from Wausau High in 1936. Upon graduation, Mary was employed at D.H. Storey Advertising Agency in Wausau until her marriage to Merton P. Pevonka on February 15, 1941. Mert was employed by Kraft Foods while they resided in Wausau, excepting the time of his service with the U.S. Army during World War II.

The Pevonka's moved from Wausau to Clintonville in August of 1953, with Mert serving as Branch Manager and later District Procurement Manager for Kraft. Mary worked as society editor for the Clintonville Tribune-Gazette from 1957 to 1967. Soon after Mert's death on December 22, 1974, Mary began work as Office Manager for Dr. Donald Ockerlander, retiring in 1982. On January 30, 1982, she married Robert M. Putzer. Bob preceded her in death on February 14, 1999.

Mary was very active in the Clintonville community. She served for several years as chairperson of the Parish Pastoral Council during her 60 years as a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. She also served her church as an officer of the St. Rose Christian Mothers-Altar Society, helped organize the St. Rose and Clintonville Human Concerns Committees to help those in need, and was a Eucharistic Minister and Trustee at St. Rose. Mary was a long time member of Riverside Golf Club, and was an outstanding bridge player during her six decades of play in bridge clubs and marathons in the area. Mary will be remembered as a wonderful and loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend. She will be missed immensely.

Mary is survived by two sons, Peter (Morgan) Pevonka of Micanopy, FL, and Alan (Mary) Pevonka of Tigard, OR. There are two Granddaughters, Ashley and Mamie; two Great Grandchildren, Gabriela and Noah; and two Stepchildren, Michael Putzer and Kathy Hull.
