Kort, Harry, F.
Harry F. Kort, 95, Weston, died Monday April 15, 2013 at Aspirus Hospice House, Wausau.
Harry was born March 14, 1918 to the late William and Erna (Wieseman) Kort in Rothschild. He was a veteran, serving in the Army Corp of Engineers, European Theatre in France. He married Phyllis "Jane" Burns on March 23, 1947 in Rothschild. He worked at Rothschild Paper Mill until he retired in 1982. Jane preceded him in death on September 30, 1995.
Harry was a fix-it master who enjoyed small engine repair of any kind. He more than likely had all the parts on hand in the garage. In his earlier years-he enjoyed playing cards, snowmobiling and playing the concertina. He enjoyed time spent on the pontoon in Manitowish Waters as well as Lake DuBay and Lake Wausau. He could be seen riding his lawnmower all around the neighborhood as he kept the lawns maintained, or pushing his snowblower-even up to a couple of weeks ago. He loved teasing the great nieces and nephews-calling every one of them "Herman". They in turned called him Harold-which was not his name. Harry especially looked forward to his birthday every year and the grand black forest cake he so loved-the bigger the cake, the better. His last birthday in March was no exception-lots of family, food and neighbors-he had a great day.
Harry is survived by his sons Anthony Kort and Jeffrey Kort (Kathy Graichen), both of Weston, his brother Ardean "Sonny" (Ardel) Kort, Rothschild, and a sister-in-law Patricia Rose, who was also his neighbor his entire adult life. She assisted his sons with his care for the past several years. He has several other brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Jane and his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sons, his sisters Viola Hauser, Florence Spindler, Clara Barwick and Arline Sikorski, and one brother Wallace Kort.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday April 19, 2013 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Rothschild. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
John J. Buettgen Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Burial with military rites will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice House and at Aspirus for their kindness and compassion.
