Gladys M. Uekert, age 101, of Merrill, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Woodland Court Elder Services, Merrill.
Gladys was born July 13, 1911, in Wausau, daughter of the late Ernest and Emma (Hanke) Beyersdorff. Gladys was baptized on March 17, 1912 and confirmed on April 5, 1925. Gladys had worked at the former Fromm Bros. in Hamburg. Gladys married Leo Uekert on July 23, 1932. He died May 20, 1983. Gladys and Leo were farmers in the Town of Rib Falls. Gladys lived there for over 50 years. Following Leo's death, she moved to Merrill.
Gladys loved her vegetable and flower gardens. She also enjoyed picking raspberries, and canning. She was an excellent cook and baker. In her earlier years, she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, and their visits.
Gladys was a member of St. Johns Church, Town of Rib Falls, from 1932-1983, and was a member of the Ladies Aid for over 50 years. Upon her move to Merrill in 1983, Gladys became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was also a member of their quilting group.
Survivors include her daughter, Arlene (Ralph) Voigt, of Merrill; her daughter-in-law, Carol Uekert, of Marathon; four grandchildren, Lori (Alan) Bernarde, of Marathon, Patti (Mike) Athanas, of Appleton, Carmen (Todd) Kleinschmidt, of Merrill, and Ralph and (Tina) Voigt, of Galesville; and five great-grandchildren, Erin and Abbie Athanas, Jessica and Bradley Bernarde, and Molly Kleinschmidt. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Uekert; her son, Donald Uekert; her parents, Ernest and Emma Beyersdorff; and her siblings, Edward Beyersdorff, Theodore Beyersdorff, Irene Schlueter, Vernice Krueger, and Anna Kennedy.
A private Funeral Service will be held.
The family would like to thank Debbie and the staff at Woodland Court for the wonderful care they provided Gladys over the years.
