Nienow, Clarence H.

Clarence H. Nienow, 84 of Wausau passed away Friday July 19, 2013.

He was born in the Town of Easton, November 18, 1928 to the late John & Erlynda (Krueger) Nienow.

Clarence worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean War as a motor pool sergeant. Upon his Honorable Discharge, from the Army, he continued to work on the family farm, drive milk truck, and also as a gas station attendant for the Clark gas station on 6th Street in Wausau. During this time he met his wife Elaine B. Abt at Paulus' Tavern in the Town of Ringle. They were married by the Justice of Peace in the City of Chicago on November 23, 1959.

After a short period there (Clark of Wausau) he was promoted to manager and transferred to DePere, Wisconsin where he became the operator/manager of the Clark Gas station on Main Street. While living there, they had three sons James Richard, Mark Francis and Joseph Ronald. James, the oldest passed away at birth. Years later they returned to Wausau where he became a machinist for Murray Machinery. Clarence was very active in the labor organizations, becoming president of International Machinist Union and also Vice President of the United Labor Counsel. In retirement Clarence was the operator of Lil Joe's Pub in Weston. To many of those who knew him, Clarence would've made a great lawyer as he loved to debate many issues over a cold beer, especially local issues and politics.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Joseph and Esther Abt, one son James, brothers John Nienow, Gaylord Nienow, and sisters Laverne Erickson, Mary Ann Wertanen and Joyce Nienow. Also, nephew Earnie Nienow, nieces Carlene (Abt) Hohn and Lois (Erickson) Juedes.

Survivors include, wife Elaine B. Nienow, Wausau. Two sons Mark (Valerie) Nienow and Joseph Nienow, both of Wausau. Grand children, Tara (Mike) Ott, Joseph Cooper Clarence Nienow, Boe Mark Nienow and Carli Jeane Luther Nienow. Step-Grand Children, Dan (Lisa) Brodjieski, Jennifer (Brian) Seehafer, Stephani Brodjieski, Seth Brodjieski, Julian J. Casellas, Jacob and Molly Viehweg. Seven great grand children.
