William P. Bernitt, 94, Eland, died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Homme Home of Wittenberg, under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.
He was born on October 17, 1918 in Eland, the son of the late William C. and Margaret (Buss) Bernitt.
William was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II.
On October 26, 1946, William was united in marriage to Jeanette Constantine in Milwaukee. She preceded him in death on August 19, 1999.
William worked at the Koehring Crane Company in Milwaukee for over 35 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Eland and of the Elderon Memorial Post #8068, VFW. William was very proud to be chosen to go on the Honor Flight a few years ago.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (William) Parker, Eland and Patricia (Robert) Nilsson, Athens, AL; one son, Ronald (Barbara) Bernitt, Ringle; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Postler, Madison and Ruth Schartner, Waukesha and a special friend, Bea Stelter. He is also survived by other relatives and many special friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, William was preceded in death by seven siblings, Evelyn Kopacz, Agnes VanderKooy, Rosemarie Bamke, Marcella Stanke, Delores Hasse, Henry Bernitt and Arnold Bernitt.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, Eland. Rev. Michael Schram will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Town of Norrie with military rites conducted by the Elderon Memorial Post #8068, VFW. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9am until the time of services at the church. Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg is assisting the family with arrangements.
