Dallas Voigts(1946 - 2013)

Dallas E. Voigts, 67, of Waverly, died on Monday, July 15, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, from complications of cancer.

Dallas was born on Feb. 19, 1946, in Hampton, the son of Eldo H. and Violet C. (Wiebke) Voigts. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Vilmar. Dallas attended country school at West Point No. 6 in Bristow and graduated in 1964 from Allison-Bristow High School. He then attended Buena Vista University and the University of Iowa. On Jan. 4, 1968, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, where he served during the Vietnam War. Dallas was honorably discharged on Aug. 22, 1969, and continued to serve with the Army Reserves until Jan. 3, 1974. Dallas continued his education at Upper Iowa University, graduating with a degree in accounting.

Dallas was united in marriage to Barbara McWhirter on June 9, 1968, and to this union three children were born, Adam, Jeremy and Carrie. The couple made their home in Charles City, Oelwein, West Des Moines and Waverly. The couple later divorced. On July 12, 1996, Dallas was united in marriage to Catherine L. (Coonradt) Richmann at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Waverly and in 1998 built a home on an acreage southeast of Waverly. Dallas was a partner with Carney, Alexander, Marold & Company, LLP as a CPA.

Dallas was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. He was also a member of Waterloo Elks, Waverly Golf & Country Club, Iowa Society of CPAs, and Waverly AMVETS and V.F.W. Posts. In his spare time Dallas enjoyed raising horses, golf, gardening, playing pool, country western music and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Catherine Voigts, of Waverly; two sons, Adam (Kariann) Voigts, of Indianola, and Jeremy (Sara) Voigts, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; one daughter, Carrie Voigts and her fiancé, Kyle Haugen, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; four step-sons, Jonathan "J.D." (Brandie) Richmann, of Iowa City; Michael (Angela) Richmann, of Waunakee, Wis.; Andrew Richmann, of Billings, Mont., Christopher "Kif" Richmann and his fiancé, Kristy Loomis, of West Branch; eight grandchildren, Douglas, Bradley, Megan, Leah, Madelyn, Jackson, Mayah and Marshall; a brother, Jerry Voigts, of Clear Lake; mother-in-law, Lois Coonradt; sister-in-law, Kim (Gary)"Bix" Bixler; brother-in-laws, John Coonradt, Tom (Toni) Coonradt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldo and Violet.

Public visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly, with the Rev. Joyce Sandberg preaching. Burial will be held on Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m. at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, with military graveside rites conducted by the Waverly Area Veterans Post Honor Guard.
