Madeline Metzger(1919 - 2013)

Madeline Mae Soash Metzger, age 94, of Waverly, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Madeline was born on February 14, 1919, in Shell Rock, the daughter of Harry and Mae (Metzger) Fuller. She was raised in rural Shell Rock where she attended Dryer Township School for first and second grades, and then Shell Rock Elementary and High School where she graduated from the twelfth grade. While growing up she attended the Shell Rock Baptist Church where she was baptized on June 26, 1934. Madeline was united in marriage to Don Soash on November 1, 1936 at her sister's home in Bremer County. Don passed away on February 15, 1970. Madeline was then united in marriage to Carl Metzger on May 28, 1972, in Colfax. During her life Madeline worked as a homemaker and then at First National Bank in Waverly from 1972 until she retired in 1994.

Madeline was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly, Homemakers Club, and was a 4-H Leader. Her enjoyments included playing organ, traveling and genealogy. She wrote two books: one on the Metzger family and one on the Ressler family.

Madeline's memory is honored by a son, Dean (Sandy) Soash of Waverly; a daughter, Jane (Jack) Brown of Bristow; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Soash, Jerri Gregory, Elizabeth Chappell, Malinda Ward, Philip Soash, Jill Page and Clark Brown; twenty four great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; step-children; step-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren; and step great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son, Ellis Soash; an infant son; a great-grandson, Brandon Page; and two sisters, Elaine Willson and Esther Renning.

Madeline has deeded her body to the University of Iowa and memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Peace United Church of Christ, 1800 Eleventh Street S.E., Waverly, Iowa 50677, with Pastor Jon Hennings officiating. Madeline's family will greet friends at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27,at Peace United Church of Christ until the time of service.
