Ruth VanBenschoten(1922-2013)

Ruth Evelyn "Miss Van" VanBenschoten, 90, of Hueytown, Ala.. passed away Jan. 27 in Hueytown.
Born in January 1922, she graduated from Iowa State Teachers College, now UNI, and from University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa with a master's degree.
She started teaching in Iowa and then moved to Alabama in 1948 and taught school in Hueytown until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church for 65 years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, and traveling extensively to 49 states and once to Cuba.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Q. and Dolly Van Benschoten; siblings, Alfred Van Benschoten, Jr., Rosemary Hildebrand, Vincent Van Benschoten and Ethan VanBenschoten; and niece, Roselyn Armstrong.
She is survived by her nieces, Judy (Larry) Blum, Sharlene Hildebrand, Shawn Van Benschoten and Lesley (Jim) Anderson; nephews, Bernie Hildebrand, Lynniel (Joan) Van Benschoten, Eric (Madeleine) Van Benschoten, David (Greta) Van Benschoten, Bruce (Terri) Van Benschoten and Lee Armstrong; sister-in-law, Doris (Vincent) Van Benschoten; her adopted Hueytown family, Peggy and Doug Dill; and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins and thousands of students, friends, and teachers.
She was interned at Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 1343 Hueytown Road, Hueytown, AL, 35023, your local church or favorite local charity.
