Harold E. Pitts, age 83, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Waverly, Iowa, died Saturday, Sept, 21, 2013, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of complications from an 8-and-a-half-year battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).

Harold was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Waterloo, the son of Theodore and Alice Beaseley Pitts. He graduated from Waterloo West High School with the Class of 1948. Following high school, he attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and worked for two years for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He then returned to Iowa and served for two years in the Iowa National Guard.
Harold was united in marriage with Catherine J. Earle on Aug. 7, 1953, in Waterloo. He served as the Waverly/Shell Rock area manager for MidAmerican Energy, formerly known as Iowa Public Service, for 40-and-a-half years, retiring in 1992. Harold was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly. He was an active member of the Waverly Chamber of Commerce for many years, served on the Waverly Municipal Hospital board from 1978-1990, was a member of the United Way and served as president of the Shell Rock Lions Club in 1968 and president of the Waverly Rotary Club in 1977.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine "Cathy," of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Deb (Reid) Corson, of Waterloo; a son, Dave (Dawn) Pitts, of Mt. Vernon, a son-in-law, Tim Fisher, of West Union; 5 grandchildren; Cortney (Max) Klein, Kyle (Katie) Corson, Cody Fisher, Dylan Pitts and Dani Pitts; a great-granddaughter, Corson Klein; and a great-grandson expected soon.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Susan Pitts-Fisher; a granddaughter, Kaylee Fisher; a brother, Norman D. Pitts; and a sister, Darlene Christensen.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1400 W. Bremer Ave. in Waverly. Private family burial will precede the service in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Public visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave. in Waterloo.
