Margaret Wood Coddington, 88, of Waverly, passed gently into eternal peace on the morning of July 30, 2013 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.

She was born on Feb. 3, 1925 to Herietta Dahlrymple and Beder Wood in Moline, Ill.
Margaret was given gifts in music and drama, gifts that were nurtured in her upbringing and that lead her to a teaching degree at the University of Iowa.
She married James Willard Coddington on July 3, 1945. She taught English and coached drama in Tipton, while her husband worked for his law degree at the University of Iowa after serving in World War II.
When he graduated, they settled in Waverly, where she taught English and coached drama until her first child was born in 1953. While raising her family she was active in music and drama, PEO and Church Women United. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served on the church board. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary where she served as president for two years. Margaret was a county Extension board member. She taught speech at Wartburg College and coached the debate team. She was active in plays throughout her life in Waverly as a director and actor.
The couple lived in Des Moines briefly in the early ninety's and were active at Plymouth United Church of Christ where they made many friends through their service in the church.
They retired in Bella Vista, Ark., where they were active in the Presbyterian Church and again found wonderful companionship in their later years.
She is survived by Elizabeth Coddington (Brad) Norton, of Lowden, Thomas James Coddington, of Bakersfield, Calif., and Amy Klatt, of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren whose lives were blessed by her presence. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Willard Coddington, a brother, Beder Wood, and her son-in-law, Ernie Klatt.
Funeral Services will be held at the Good Shepherd Chapel at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community on Aug. 21 at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Alan Bidne officiating. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Aug. 21 at Bartels Good Shepherd Chapel starting at 9:30 a.m. and lasting until the time of service.
